Cloud computing is a concept that emerged along with the development of Information Technology in this modern era. The term cloud computing itself appeared in 2006 when Amazon offered services in the form of Elastic Cloud Computing (EC2) and Simple Storage Service (S3). According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), cloud computing is a model that enables ubiquitous, convenient, and on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services). Access through cloud computing can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.
Cloud computing system has three types of service models. The three models consist of: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). These three models differentiate between the cloud computing system and traditional IT system. These differences can be explained simply through the following figure.

The figure above shows the differences between the service model of cloud computing and traditional IT. In the IaaS model, consumers only need to manage applications, data, runtime, and middleware. Then, in the PaaS model, consumers only need to manage applications and data. While the SaaS model, the overall management is carried out by the vendor as it was delivered as a service.
In Indonesia, cloud computing technology has been implemented by many companies as a solution to ease business management needs. One of the companies engaged in the cloud computing industry in Indonesia is Biznet GIO Nusantara (BGN).
Biznet GIO Nusantara is the work of a joint venture between the Indonesian telecommunications giant, Biznet Networks and IIJ, in 2014. The result of this joint venture introduces a cloud service that can be a solution in designing and building as many projects as possible in a high-performance, secure, and reliable cloud environment for businesses in Indonesia. This cloud service is called Biznet GioCloud.
Biznet GioCloud itself is a cloud service with an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) model. As previously mentioned, the IaaS service model type helps consumers in managing or controling the underlying cloud infrastructure, so that consumers only need to exercise control over the operating system, storage, and applications used. As a cloud provider, Biznet GioCloud will ensure that consumer’s business services are always up and running well.
Biznet GioCloud operates on a Tier-3 data center, where the entire cloud architecture is designed to provide a stable, secure and reliable infrastructure. Consumer business systems will be integrated with network facilities and supported by extensive connections to meet the needs for multi-cloud environment. The BGN data center itself is located in Indonesia and has High Availability with Multiple Regions and Availability Zone features that are ready to be used. BGN also provides on-premises server integration with a hybrid cloud scheme or connects professionally managed hyperscaler cloud services.
Thus, Biznet GioCloud can be a solution for businesses to meet market needs in this digital era, especially for the financial industry, manufacturing & logistics, medical & health, retail services, media & news platforms, education, etc.
