Why Mail Security is Very Important?

Company email is very important for the course of company productivity in running a business. Company email is made to facilitate employees in separating personal and work affairs and also becomes a communication tool for companies and also employees in conducting business relationships. However, the number of spam emails that also go into business emails, can threaten the security of these emails which in turn can adversely affect the device used.

According to Verizon breach investigation data conducted in 2018, 93% of Malware or viruses come from e-mail. That is why email security is very important. Malware can enter through the URL that appears in an email that is often known as Drive by Download, besides that malware can also be found in excecutable files such as exe, bat, cmd, java scripts etc. Besides Malware can also enter through macro files that come from Microsoft office files or PDF that are accessed automatically.

Here are some threats that can threaten your email and how to deal with it:

1. Tapping: Tapping is at every MTA point that is passed to the destination, usually because the e-mail is open and can be easily read clearly by the eavesdropper. Protection that can be done is by encrypting the contents of the email.

2. Counterfeiting: Fake e-mails are made by changing the headers and sending them directly from the MTA or while tapping the e-mail, the e-mail will be changed first and continued to the destination. File submissions will be recorded in the log file. How to avoid this is by checking the e-mail header and tracing the digital signature.

3. Virus Infiltration: This is usually a result of carelessness of users who are less vigilant, the contents of emails are not checked because the firewall does not function in the application screen and tends to be directly attached for user convenience. Protection that can be used is to use an updated antivirus, do not allow email clients to run applications, do not open attachments that are not clear senders, and check viru on the mail server.

4. Spamming: That is sending random or random emails that are usually used for promotion and are not filtered by antivirus because email messages are read as normal emails. Protection that can be done is by reporting Spam to the server as sample data for the server (this makes the server more intelligent to spam), and installing antispam.

5. Mail Bomb: iala Sending many emails in a row to one destination. This can make the server down. Protection that can be done is by limiting the size of the email, quotisk, using a special filter to duplicate emails.

6. Mail Relay: Mail relay uses the servers of other people to send email. This happens because the server gives the other party permission to send mail through the server (open relay). As a result of this server bandwidth is used to send emails that are usually in large quantities, the recipient of the email is deceived by a fake address that is the address of the server, and gets angry and filtered from the recipient of the email. The fix can be done by setting the settings to not run open relay.
