What is the SD-WAN?
SD-WAN is a software-defined technology that allows companies to take advantage of every combination of transportation services – including MPLS, 4G LTE and broadband internet services – to connect users to local networks but to wider networks such as from branch to center. This is made easier by the capabilities of SD-WAN technology that is able to attempt to transfer control of the network from the usual hardware that is changed through the software’s approach to the cloud.
Software-Defined Wide Area Networking or commonly called SD-WAN is a technology that virtualizes WAN to separate network software services from the underlying hardware — providing agility, flexibility, simplicity, performance, and scale for all companies leveraging the cloud.
This technology is here to enhance the old technology or Traditional WAN or usually use MPLS, with new technology that is more flexible, simple and cheaper when compared to traditional WAN is SD-WAN. What’s more, some of the issues that exist when using MPLS, namely:
- Time consuming for deploying
- Necessity to Manage policies for each branch directly
- Backhauls traffic to data centers resulting in deteriorating SaaS application access performance
- Inefficient use of expensive bandwidth
- Unencrypted virtual private networks, as well as
- Requires additional security add-ons to protect sensitive data
Businesses need a flexible and reliable network architecture to support innovations with a large scale that is using SD-WAN (Software-defined Network) technology in the Wide Area Network (WAN) section.
